Colin Griffin
Dr Colin Griffin is a rehabilitation specialist with a PhD in foot and ankle rehabilitation, with particular clinical and research interests in calf and Achilles tendon injuries, as well as lower-limb running injuries.
He began his academic journey with a BA from the University of Limerick, followed by a degree in Strength and Conditioning from Setanta College and an MSc in Coaching and Exercise Science from University College Dublin. He subsequently completed a PhD at the University of Côte d’Azur in France, researching Achilles tendon rehabilitation and lower-limb biomechanics under the supervision of Professor JB Morin, a leading researcher in running biomechanics.
Colin is an accredited strength and conditioning coach with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association and the Sport Ireland Institute. He is also a Level 3 Endurance Coach with Athletics Ireland.
Before joining Sports Surgery Clinic in 2014, Colin spent 15 years competing in elite athletics. He represented Ireland at European and World Championships and competed in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games in the 50 km race walk.
Since retiring from international competition, Colin has continued to run competitively at senior and masters level, recording a marathon best of 2:23:00. He combines his experience as an elite athlete with more than nine years of clinical practice and doctoral research to inform his approach to rehabilitation. In addition to his clinical work, he consults with professional sports teams on complex lower-limb injuries and provides strength and conditioning support to some of Ireland’s leading athletes.
