Episode Summary

Learn how to progress patellar tendon rehab safely with slow, single-leg isotonic quadriceps work using a metronome. Discover why controlled timing, a longer lowering phase, and adjusting painful ranges can build strength without irritating the tendon. Ebonie Rio presents.

Slow isotonic strengthening for patellar tendon pain is demonstrated using a metronome to guide timing and keep the exercise controlled. The focus is on single-leg quadriceps work, especially after isometric options such as the Spanish squat belt have been used when equipment is limited. Learners are shown how to perform a concentric and eccentric contraction with a set tempo: three seconds up and four seconds down. The explanation highlights why the movement stays slow. Static and controlled loading is presented as safer for irritated tendons because it avoids fast, aggravating actions. Attention is also given to modifying range of motion when certain positions are painful, particularly full knee extension, which can bother the patellar tendon. In that case, exercises can be done within a comfortable range. Another key point is the longer eccentric phase, which is described as important neurologically. A metronome set at 60 beats per minute is used to support rhythm and focus, and practical advice is given for fitting this short, structured tendon work into a regular gym session.
